At Qumran...the area shown here is where the Dead Sea Scrolls were first discovered.  After the initial discovery more than 900 scrolls in various conditions were found in this area between 1947 and 1956.  ...the extremely arid climate enabled them to stay preserved for nearly 2000 years!
